Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?
“My mom is a hygienist, and I grew up always hearing her talk about teeth. I wanted to help people smile!”
Dr. DeFord says there is no better feeling than seeing a patient walk in feeling anxious and then leaving with a huge smile on their face. She comes from a dental family and likes showing people that taking care of their teeth can be comfortable and stress-free. Her enthusiasm and positive energy are contagious, helping patients relax as soon as they meet her.

Dr. DeFord is a graduate of the University of Richmond, where she earned her B.S. in Biology with minors in health care studies and dance. She obtained her DMD degree from Temple University, then moved to Baltimore to complete a General Practice Dental Residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital. There, she received extensive training on various dental procedures such as oral surgery, endodontics, prosthodontics, surgical extractions, and sedation. In addition, she gained experience with emergency/trauma situations and pre-post operative care. Dr. DeFord is committed to continuing education and is an active member of the American Dental Association, Delaware State Dental Society, and the Academy of General Dentistry.

Dr. DeFord grew up doing ballet and danced all the way through college (even minoring in dance). She still likes to stay active, doing Pilates and playing pickleball. Her favorite food is pizza, which she routinely makes from scratch. As a dentist, most people are surprised to learn that she has a huge sweet tooth, especially when it comes to sour candy.
