Cosmetic Dentistry At Dental Associates Of Delaware

Having a great smile is important for many different reasons. For some, it is about first impressions and confidence; for others, aesthetic or function. Now there are more options than ever to treat conditions that may be preventing patients from reaching their full smile potential.

Cosmetic dentistry addresses aesthetic issues people experience with their Delaware smiles. These aesthetic flaws can vary from a combination of different issues such as:

  • Stained teeth
  • Cracked teeth
  • Crooked teeth
  • Spaces between teeth
  • Broken Teeth
  • Gum Disease
  • Neglect
  • Anxiety

Our dentists in Brandywine, Hockessin, Middletown, Wilmington, Millsboro, & Ocean View, DE offer several cosmetic dentistry treatments to help our patient feel good about their smiles. We encourage you to read below on all of the cosmetic services we offer at Dental Associates of Delaware.

Tooth Whitening

Tooth whitening is a bleaching process that improves the appearance of stained or discolored teeth. This is a safe, simple process that does not result in any loss of tooth structure. We offer at-home tooth whitening, which makes use of whitening trays that fit over the teeth. When a patient chooses at-home whitening, we will create custom trays for that person that fit over the teeth. Then, in the privacy of their own home, the patient puts a special whitening solution inside the trays before placing them over the teeth. The whitening solution works to safely reverse the discoloration of the enamel of the teeth, resulting in a whiter, brighter and more attractive smile.

Tooth Bonding

Tooth bonding is a procedure that is used to aesthetically restore teeth. This procedure is often used when a small portion of tooth structure needs to be corrected or replaced. It can be used to close spaces between teeth and to restore chipped, cracked or decayed teeth. Tooth bonding is a fast and affordable way to quickly repair small imperfections of teeth. Bonding can even be used to change the shape of a tooth and to protect the root of a tooth after it’s exposed due to receding gums.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are thin, custom-made “shells” or coverings made of a tooth-colored porcelain material, which are bonded to the existing tooth structure. Veneers are used to correct stained, chipped, crooked or spaced teeth. They can also be used to improve the appearance of poorly shaped teeth. Veneers are strong, natural looking and can be made to match the shape and color of one’s own teeth, or completely change the shape and shade all together. Whether using veneers to whiten a dull smile or to fill gaps between teeth, the results are dramatic and impressive!

Porcelain Crowns

A porcelain crown is a tooth-shaped “cap” that is placed on a tooth which no longer has sufficient structure left to place a filling. Many people have crowns placed following root canal treatments. Porcelain crowns are also used to replace tooth structure when a tooth is cracked, broken or fragile. When a patient chooses to have a porcelain crown, a model is taken of the tooth so that a laboratory can create the crown from the mold. Then one of our dentists will place the finished crown on the prepared tooth to ensure comfort and proper bite. A porcelain crown looks and feels just like a natural tooth top and can drastically improve the appearance of one’s smile!

Tooth-Colored Restorations or Fillings

Many people have silver-colored restorations or fillings called amalgams. These types of fillings can be unsightly and especially if a patient has several. We offer tooth-colored restorations, which blend perfectly with the color of a patient’s natural teeth. These fillings are made from durable, composite materials that result in them looking and feeling just like natural enamel.

Teeth Straightening

Many people with crooked teeth and/or misaligned bites do not wish to wear metal braces that show. Our practice offers some great alternatives to traditional metal braces including Six Month Smiles and Invisalign®. Six Month Smiles are braces that make use of clear brackets and tooth-colored wires which are barely visible. This tooth straightening treatment option takes about six months to complete, hence the name. Six Month Smiles braces are typically less expensive than traditional braces and result in an amazing, straight smile any patient would be proud to have!

The Invisalign® System

We also offer the innovative Invisalign® System to those patients wishing to straighten their smiles without the use of metal brackets or wires. Invisalign® consists of a series of clear, removable aligners made of a plastic material, which are designed to gradually move teeth into the desired position. When Invisalign® is worn, most people don’t even notice that the person is undergoing orthodontic treatment. This popular teeth straightening treatment is very convenient because the aligners can be taken out when eating and when brushing & flossing.
