4 Ways To Brighten Your Smile

At Dental Associates of Delaware it is our goal to make sure each of our patients is practicing excellent oral hygiene and it is our duty to provide them with the information to take care of their mouth and teeth. If you are looking to brighten your smile apart from your regular cleanings at our offices in Brandywine, Hockessin, Middletown, Wilmington, Millsboro, and Ocean View then you are in luck. There are many other ways to brighten your smile than just brushing and flossing regularly. To find out more about how you can have a sparkling Delaware smile keep on reading!

Baking Soda Isn’t Just For Baking!

You have probably heard this one before or seen it in commercials, but it is worth mentioning! Not only is baking soda a great whitener but it also can reverse the damage that has been done before and remove stains. You can always run to the store and grab a toothpaste that has baking soda in it, or even make it a fun do-it-yourself project. If you are feeling gutsy you can do the following to create your own tooth-whitening mixture:

  • Tablespoon of baking soda
  • Few drops of hydrogen peroxide or teaspoon of salt
  • Mix these together
  • Rub onto teeth with finger or toothbrush

If you are going to make your own mixture please keep in mind that excessive use could damage enamel or gums, so please only do this every once in awhile.

Put Down The Processed Sugar & Pick Up Some Fruit

This tip may come as a surprise as we all know that fruit has natural sugars. However fruits contain acids that oxidize the stains from your teeth and are a great natural whitening tool. Simply picking up fruits like strawberries, pears or apples in between meals can help whiten your smile. Let us also not forget that fruit is good for your body as well so remember next time your reaching for the beef jerky how beneficial a piece of fruit can be for your smile and your body.

Sip Through That Straw

Although it may seem like a pain to make sure that you are always drinking through a straw think about everything that passes by your teeth. Start out your day with a cup of coffee? Soda at lunch and dinner? Every time you take a sip the liquid you are drinking is passing your teeth. This is just one simple thing to keep in mind to avoid stains and having to worry about whitening more often then you should have to.

Chew Chomping

Did you know that your saliva acts as a natural mouthwash? Snacking or chewing on something that is naturally chewy such as raisins or even an option like sugar free gum will help produce saliva which will wash any stains or lingering food particles out of your teeth.
