What Are Crowns And How Are They Used?

This is a great question, and if you don’t know the answer, we promise you that you are not alone! Many people are unaware of what crowns are and why people need them when it comes to the oral health but never fear! Dental Associates of Delaware is happy to provide you with the information you need to see if you might be a candidate for dental crowns.

Dental Crowns

Dental crowns serve a lot of different purposes when it comes to protecting your oral health. A crown can be used to replace a large filling when there is no longer enough of the tooth to be re-filled. It can also be used as a form of protection to prevent any tooth fracturing as well as to restore teeth that have already been fractured. If teeth are badly shaped or have been discolored over the years they can also be helped with the implementation of a crown. Overall, a crown is a restoration that covers, or caps a tooth to restore the tooth to its normal shape and size.

Is A Crown Right For You?

To fully answer this question we recommend you have a consultation with a Dentist that can examine your specific case. However if you fit into any of the following categories then you might just be a candidate for a crown:

  • Have a cracked, weak or broken tooth
  • Large filling with little tooth left
  • Having trouble with a dental bridge
  • Have misshapen or severely discolored teeth
  • Are unhappy with your smile

We encourage you to reach out to our office in Brandywine, Hockessin, Middletown, Wilmington, Millsboro, or Ocean View if you feel that you might be a candidate for a dental crown.
